DEDICATION: Poly Bears’ cross country teams compete at Woodbridge.
The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams visited the 33rd Annual Woodbridge Invitational at Estancia High School on September 21. Only the athletes that completed the summer training could compete at the invitational as it was a merit-meet based on participation. Both teams raced superbly with four of the boys placing in the top 30 and five of the girls resulting in the top 30. The Poly boys finished with the 14th best time out of 237 teams that raced at the invitational and the Poly girls finished with the 19th best time out of 236 teams. “I think the team did great,” Head Coach Alfonso Ibarra said, “especially our freshmen girls. They stepped up and ran against really big competition and Julia Valdez (9) broke the school record, so that’s always a great accomplishment.” With only half the team competing at the Woodbridge Invitational, there is much to be expected from the rest of the team as they move onto their first league meet this Wednesday at Andulka Park.
