HEALTH: New studies show that certain foods have an effect on cancer growth.

Cancer can be caused by environmental and hereditary factors. Although one may develop this disease despite careful attention to general diet and health, evidence shows that the food one eats has a major effect on the growth of cancer. Many cancer-promoting foods include refined sugars, carbohydrates, deep-fried foods and other products. Not only do many of these foods affect cancer growth, but they also affect one’s cardiovascular, nervous and reproductive systems.
Sweetened beverages greatly affect the growth of cancer. “Food sources high in refined sugars such as sweetened beverages, sodas and many juices can increase cancer risk. Studies show that individuals who consume two or more servings of soda per week have an 87 percent higher chance of developing pancreatic cancer compared to individuals who do not consume soft drinks,” Livestrong.com reported.
Fried foods increase one’s risk of developing cancer because hydrogenated oils and trans fats are by-products of acylamide, which is a “well-known tumor causing agent and also a potent neurotoxin, having adverse effects not only on the brain, but on the reproductive system as well,” Livestrong.com stated.
Burned meats retain a number of toxins and mutagenic by-products. Many of these by-products are created when an organic plant or animal is burned; these are the same products created when burning tobacco.
While the effects have not been rigorously established for all refined and processed foods, many of them are proven to cause cancer or promote the growth of cancer within an individual.
