This school year is Dr. Duncan’s first year here as the Assistant Principal for Restorative Practice and Discipline/Attendance[M-Z]. “I assist with Discipline mostly but have other duties including to oversee programs such as Heritage, Legacy, Puente, the Foreign Language Department, and Principles of Leadership,” Duncan said.
Duncan decided to follow this path in order to help students reach their full potential. “It’s rewarding to work with students while helping them create a growth mindset and positive outlook to the situation they are in,” Duncan said.
She earned her teaching credential at the University of Mary in North Dakota. From there she attended California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) where she received her Adapted Physical Education Credential. She taught Physical Education and Adapted P.E at Alvord Unified School District for 10 years. After working with special need students, Duncan realized that something needed to be done in order to help improve their education. She decided to attend the University of Redlands to obtain her administrative credential as well as a doctorate in Educational Leadership for Social Justice.
Before coming to Poly, Duncan was also the head women’s softball coach at CSUSB. Her team was successful and won the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) West Sub-Regional Championship. She then moved on to become the assistant principal at Chemawa Middle School in 2014.
Duncan has enjoyed working at Poly this year. “The administration team has been supportive and helpful offering advice and guidance about how to navigate different situations and the students have been respectful and a joy to work with so far,” she said.
