WELCOME: Bringing fun and spunk back to learning.
Mx. Knox, a first-year math teacher at Poly, is the epitome of creativity and fun. As a math teacher, it seems quite ironic that Knox is so fun and colorful, but their mission is to make math just as spunky and colorful as them.
As a child, Knox describes that they “hated math” until a teacher taught that math really “has no limits” and can actually be somewhat creative. Yes, there is a right answer, but there is also a way to make it interesting, rather than so black and white. After meeting the teacher who changed everything about math for Knox, they knew that making math enjoyable for more students was their mission. So, that’s exactly what Knox did!
Knox is a San Luis Osibispo alumni, who was infamous on campus for “falling asleep in random places, like desks, benches, and even in classrooms that weren’t (their) class.” Knox was even featured, embarrassingly, on the student sleep page. Knox describes choosing San Luis because of its “art and DIY scene.” Knox is a DIY artist, who loves to wear fun homemade jewelry to school. They also describe picking San Luis for its many house shows (mini concerts in someone’s house), which “(they’ve) always loved going to.”
Knox has been a long-time music enthusiast; growing up on new wave and musical theater music. Now, as a genuine cool adult, they’ve moved onto listening to rap and rock, with their favorite current artist “changing every day,” but currently being Cordae. If you’ve ever doubted the music taste of Knox, you can’t now!
Knox is extremely excited to be here at Poly and help make math more fun, accessible, and spunky. If you get Mx. Knox as a teacher, get ready for a year full of real learning. Welcome to bear country, Mx. Knox!
