BITTERSWEET: Senior Maddie Sisco reflects back on her high school career and all the memories made along the way.
For every high schooler, when entering the gates at Poly High the first day of Freshman year, they each have a different goal, mindset, and expectation of what they will get out of their four years. For current Senior Maddie Sisco, it was to enjoy the experience. The soon to be 2024 graduate is going back and reflecting on all the memories made in high school as well considering the excitement that is to come
High school for Sisco was “chaotic in the best way possible” as she was able to meet so many unexpected people. Through each extra curricular activity and event she participated in, Maddie met new people and made new and exciting memories. A core favorite for her was senior float building, because it “[was] just always so fun” to spend time outside of school with close friends.
Besides outside of school activities, Maddie was also involved in many sports and clubs at Poly. She played soccer all four years, did two years of track and dance, and even joined the flag football team for Poly’s debut season in the Fall of 2023. With link crew her Junior year and three years of Bear Pals under her belt, Sisco also participated by supporting others outside of sports. When choosing, flag football was her favorite because “there [was]n’t any pressure,” only fun. Especially as they “did way better than [they] thought [they] would” which made the experience more memorable. Soccer was also a stand out for her – the happy memories created placing it among her favorite activities.
Along with her extra curricular involvement, the academic side to the senior is just as involved. When reflecting on her high school teachers, Mrs. Rahman, Mr. Schiller, and Mr. Ermert stood out from the rest. She mentioned how “you can tell they love what they do” and always strive to help their students “ become the best version of [themselves].” She offered advice to incoming freshmen and other high school students to get involved on campus and to not “be afraid to put yourself out there and to join an activity.”
The soon to be 2024 graduate is excited and looking forward to attending CBU (California Baptist University) in the fall, and majoring in BioMed while there. After graduating, she hopes to one day be an ER Physician’s Assistant (PA).
