SPOTLIGHT: Students are asked about their opinions on the upcoming Junior class president of the 2024-2025 school year, Mateen Sherafat.
ASB is very excited to have elected sophomore Mateen Sherafat to be next year’s class president for the future juniors (Class of 2026)! With the inclusion of the students on campus in leadership positions, Poly aims to promote an inclusive environment where the standards of its pupils are met. By having select students participate in some of the key decisions that may change the atmosphere at Poly, the needs of the classes are represented in a fashion that provides an opportunity for change when wished for.
As a class president, one must use their leadership skills to take charge of events such as float building, and other school activities. The incorporation of a student representing their class fosters the promotion of their graduating year as a whole, such as the similarities that bring it together.
Mateen shared that he decided to run for class president because he “wanted to make a difference in the junior class of Poly”. Mateen also pointed out that he “truly cares about” his peers, aiming to bring about a more diverse community on campus.
Mateen is very optimistic. Lilah Ubiadas states that she is “excited for Mateen’s role next year”, as “he will encourage more people to come to school events” and showcase their Poly Pride! As a community, Poly is strengthened by the presence of school spirit through its students. With Mateen as one of its examples, the school will “see some changes”, and definitely benefit in many ways from his influence, as sophomore Emma McCoy claims.
Overall, asking around the campus, the mood of the sophomore class is seemingly confident, as well as excited, to have Mateen Sherafat in such an important leadership position next year. With the school year coming to its final couple of months, the school is already looking forward to the next year and searching for the best way to approach it. Mateen Sherafat appears to be fit for the task he signed up for, but only his future actions will truly determine how well he can handle the workload!
