FRIENDS: Poly sophomores come together to create the homecoming float
During the last week, September 25 – 29, Poly float building began. The theme for the sophomore class this year is Horror. Students work on making paper mache flowers of various colors to create an image on a float. Other sophomores staple the folded and fluffed flowers onto the actual float. It is an activity realized on the homecoming week and a large social event for each class.

Benny Solis (10) expresses how he attends float building because it is a fun way to socialize and stay involved. “I love being able to have fun with my friends and still help the school,” he says. Solis is currently in the Puente program, a world literature program that requires students to have 10 hours of community service every semester. He obtains volunteer hours from going to the float building which helps him with this class. He enjoys the mini-challenges that ASB organizes to encourage the flower makers to work faster and increase their efficiency.

Payton Diaz (10) is another student who attended the float buildings. The float building to her is a place to get together with friends and socialize with them. The theme of the sophomore float, horror, is what lures in her friend group. Diaz shares, “it is fun to be able to be with my friends and make flowers at the same time”.
Andrea Gomez (10) comments on the social aspect of the float building, “everyone here is friends and it’s always super chill”. She is an ASB member who enjoys participating in school events and sees them as gatherings for friends and helping the school make a better float than last year’s freshman float. As another year passes by, the sophomores are excited to use their experience to come out even better next year as experience Juniors.
