Riverside Poly High School students perform musical plays for the Halloween season the first week of November. The musical is split into two acts: the first act is a series of four short scary stories and the second act is the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

The first act is made up of four short horror stories: The Monkey’s Paw, The System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Feather, Tell-Tale Heart and The Cask of Amontillado.

The second act is the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Casting for the major roles in the play took place eight weeks prior to the first show. Preparation for the show, including set production, began a week before casting. Many of the set pieces have wheels that allow sets to move on and off stage with ease. “The easy movement of sets adds to the overall fluidity of scenes,” Hannah Swartzel, sophomore manager of the play, said.

“This year the play will be very different because, besides this being Mr. MarkerMorse’s first year, this will be the first time in three years that we will have almost completely rolling sets,” Swartzel explained.

Opening night is November 1 and continues through to November 10. Band and orchestra will be performing for the opening night of the play. “By getting all of the school involved in the play, we expect a better turnout and hopefully an increased excitement for our theater program,” Caitlyn McCain, an actress in the play, said.

“I am really excited to see what our turnout for the play is like. I have very high expectations because of our endless preparation and I have almost no doubt in my mind that our play is sure to be a success,” McCain said.
