EMOTIONAL: Poly celebrates its seniors at the last football game of the season.
Friday, November 1st, marked a big moment for many Poly seniors as football, cheer, band, color guard, and sports medicine all celebrated senior night. At 5:30 on Friday night, the seniors took the field with friends and family to celebrate 4 years of achievement.
Football took the field first, followed by cheer, then band and color guard, and ending with sports medicine. Each senior was called and spoken about briefly as they thanked family, friends, and teachers for their support. For song captain Madison Duncan (12), this was an emotional night as she thanked “[her] friends and family for always being there for [her].” Seniors were then directed to take a picture under a balloon arch to memorialize the significant night.
The band and color guard performed at halftime for the last time this year. However, this was a special performance reserved for the senior night festivities. The band and color guard performed the entirety of their show. For percussion senior Conrad Bagwell, “It was a fun experience, especially since [they] had [their] full halftime performance.” The band and color guard had a memorable night and left fans with a memorable last performance.
This would be the last game that football and cheer seniors would take the field, the last game band and color guard seniors would perform at halftime, and the last game sports medicine seniors would work. Although this was an emotional night for these seniors it was also an accumulation of all their hard work throughout the last four years and a celebration of what they have achieved. For sports medicine senior Reagan Grigsby, “It is unreal that this was our last game and it makes [her] sad to think about it.” Even though this was a sad night she is “thankful for the opportunities.” Emotions ran high Friday night as many seniors were nostalgic celebrating the last four years.
Although this was the last game for many Poly seniors, it was a night they will never forget. The football team closed out the season with a win, and the seniors closed out their last season with a spectacular celebration.
