Riverside in bidding for Olympic Trials site

LOCAL: Riverside is a candidate for hosting the 2013 Olympic Diving Trials.

On September 19, 2013, USA Diving announced the potential host cities for the 2016 U.S. Diving Olympic Team Trials. The City of Riverside is one of the six considered cities.

The other five include: Atlanta, Georgia; Greensboro, North Carolina; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Tucson, Arizona; Indianapolis, Indiana.

The USA Diving staff and board members will evaluate each of these cities before deciding the finalists on October 21. Evaluation of the finalists will continue until December of 2013; sometime during that month the final decision is expected to be released.

The USA Diving members will be in contact with

NBC’s broadcast partner, USOC. NBC and NBC Sports, “provided 14 hours of live and taped diving coverage of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials and will provide similar coverage of the 2016 Trials as well,” USA Diving stated.

“Our community is prepared to provide an exciting, memorable and unparalleled experience for the athletes, officials, coaches, spectators and the many volunteers who will be working to support the events surrounding the competition,” Mayor Rusty Bailey said.
