The College and Career Fair is a yearly event held in Riverside that offers high school and college students the opportunity to learn more about their futures. Over 150 universities attended the Career Fair and shared admissions facts and programs offered at their schools. Students also had access to free financial aid information that can help when applying for The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Additionally, there were various businesses represented that gave insight into their hiring processes and internship opportunities. The business proprietors also gave crucial information needed to help hone resume skills and sharpen different interview abilities. The College and Career Fair also educated the students on what resources were needed to be successful in college, even going as far as giving away a laptop to one lucky high school student.
Students had the chance to be directly informed by experts in their respective fields of everything that concerns incoming college freshmen. “Seeing the whole process makes it a lot less overwhelming,” said Isabel Burksey (12). During a stressful time in everyone’s academic career, the College and Career Fair can help ease the minds of prospective students at any stage in their application process. Nonetheless, the fair aided college students and graduates in establishing relationships with possible employers and learning about internship opportunities. Riverside Chambers of Commerce continues to hold College and Career Fairs in order for the local youth to get properly educated and prepared for their futures.
