Cats, like humans, have different personalities and it is difficult to diagnose exactly why they run away. A major factor is the environment they come from; regardless of the neighborhood they live in, there are always possible hazards. If you live in a busy or noisy area, the possibility that your cat may be spooked, kidnapped or physically harmed increases in comparison to that of a quiet residential area. However, if you live in an area in close proximity to wilderness, domestic animals may explore out of their domestic boundaries and encounter a lack of resources to which they are not accustomed. Perhaps nature ran its course and took your cat with it. We say this because cats have a natural ability to find their way home and if yours has not yet returned, he could be injured, living elsewhere or unable to return for other reasons.
As for finding your cat, the odds are against it. Do not become preoccupied with the idea that your cat will just show up on your doorstep. However, there is always a ray of hope. There are several websites that you can access to register your cat as “Lost” or check if someone else has already found him. You should also go to the local animal shelter if you have not done so already. Below is a link to a website that might help you. It will allow you to register your cat as lost and even search through lists of cats that have been found. We have also included the address of the Riverside Humane Society for you to visit and ask about your cat.
