Response 2

Asking another person to attend Prom with you can be very nerve-racking and possibly even stressful. It is entirely normal to feel anxious and like you might explode from anticipation. Try to stay calm and everything will work out the way it is supposed to be. Keep in mind that when you do decide to ask someone, you need to make sure you leave enough time for both of you to purchase the appropriate formal attire. Therefore, sometime in March would be ideal since it leaves enough time to find something to wear, and is not so early that asking seems desperate. Waiting too long could also result in someone else asking the person you have in mind before you do.

While some people would prefer to be asked in a big and extravagant manner that leaves the entire school wondering what the response will be, others prefer a smaller and more personal gesture. You have to figure out what kind of situation the person you are asking would prefer and what you would feel more comfortable doing. If you know that a more public way of asking would be the best option, here are some ideas you could elaborate upon: write a message on the board of a classroom, make a banner to hang up somewhere, write on his or her car with window markers, ask a group of friends to wear t-shirts with a message written on them, write  something on multiple balloons, arrange for something to be said over the announcements or even leave a trail of things for them to follow with the question at the end.

However, if a more low-key idea is more suitable, here are some other options: ask them in person and keep it simple, send a flower (or another object) with a note attached, create a basket of his or her favorite things with a note, make a video for him or her, set up a treasure hunt with clues here and there, buy or make a baked good or any type of food with your question attached, write the person a note in a different language or in some kind of code with a hint that states to plug the message into a translator. You could also use an inside joke as inspiration for something, make a mystery box with reasons why you should go together, leave something in front of his or her house (but only if you are close to the person, otherwise it may seem kind of creepy), buy a card that is capable of recording your voice or even order a pizza with a message inside the box or on the pizza itself.

Whenever you decide to ask, and whatever you decide to do, make sure you have fun with it and try not to get too nervous. Good luck!
