I cannot agree with you more. Thank you for your insight into the well-being of the student body. You say you are only a freshman; if you choose to propose this idea to the teachers and administration early on and get other students on board with it, perhaps “R and R” can become a reality within your next three years at Poly. You may think that you see a lot of sleepiness in your freshman classes, but just wait until you cross the upperclassman threshold and start to see more and more student sleepyheads.  Whether your teacher sees it as rude (or you feel rude while doing it), sleeping in class is a way to make up for the hours we lose at home to ridiculous amounts of homework or extracurricular priorities.
