Editor #10:

Participating as a member of the homecoming court on behalf of your club is one of the most fun ways to get involved and really feel like a part of the school. Getting selected does not have to be particularly difficult as the prince/princess positions are usually reserved for upperclassmen and long-term members of the club who have shown a commitment beyond just showing up for a few meetings. If you do not feel comfortable expressing your desire to be princess in front of the club during a meeting, then you can always talk privately with your club president or vice-president about your interest. Not expressing your desire to run simply because you are afraid someone will run against you is not a good enough reason. The people who voice what they want are often the people who get what they want. If you are assertive you are more likely to achieve your goal. There is always the possibility that somebody else wants to be princess, but she has just as much of a chance of getting it as you do. However, if you do not express an interest I can almost guarantee you won’t get the position. So steel your nerves and just go for it; you have every right to be princess if you have been a committed, four-year member of your club. Good luck!
