On a high school transcript, an A is an A is an A. So yes, you will still have a 4.0 with an A-. Plusses and minuses do not really matter in the long run. Nice job on maintaining a 4.0; hopefully you can keep the “A Streak” until the semester ends because those are the grades that show up on your academic record when it comes time for colleges and other programs to evaluate you. If you had any grade less than an A, then you would have less than a 4.0. Although quarter grades are important in some aspects, such as maintaining a 2.0 for sport participation, consider them a half-way mark to your semester grades (which stay on your academic record permanently). Here’s how to calculate your GPA in case you ever have grades lower than A’s on your report card:

–          Step 1

  • Non-weighted classes: A= 4 points, B= 3 points, C= 2 points, D= 1 point, F= 0 points
  • Weighted classes: A= 5 points, B= 4 points, C= 3 points, D= 2 points, F= 0 points

–          Step 2

  • Add up all of your grades together according to the point values above. For example, if one had two A’s, three B’s, and one C, 4 + 4 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 2 = 19.

–          Step 3:

  • Divide that total by the number of classes you have. So in the example, 19 divided by 6 is 3.16. There’s a GPA.

Good luck with all of your future classes and keep up the excellence!
