EVENTS: ABC’s new series Splash takes place at RCC.

Riverside Community College (RCC) will be the film spot of ABC’s new series Splash RCC signed a contract with ABC regarding the use of their recently remodeled aquatics complex.

Many renovations are being built for the new show, including a newly erected roof frame. The roof frame will act as a tent to cover the area surrounding the diving pool.

The tent will cover the pool for a period of two or more months. It will be removed in time for RCC to host the CIF Swimming and Diving championships, which are likely to take place in early May.

Many celebrities will take a leap of faith off the edge, including: former Lakers player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, comedian Louie Anderson, Play Boy bunny Kendra Wilkinson and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Katherine Webb. The celebrities will be coached “by Olympic diving medalist Greg Louganis and critiqued by judges David Boudia, a London Olympic U.S. Gold medalist and Steve Foley, an Australian Olympic athlete and USA Dive Team director,” the Press Enterprise reported.

Promotional clips were filmed last month at RCC.

The aquatics complex helps to make significant contributions to Riverside’s economy. The estimated economic impact of “11 previous events at the complex totals to more than $3.5 million. Splash has brought an increase in hotel and restaurant business,” Debbi Guthrie, director of the Riverside Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, said. Many of these events include USA Swimming’s Junior Olympics and AAU national diving championships.

The premier of Splash is set for March 19.
