PRIDE For Our Carnival

PRIDE: Poly High hosts their yearly carnival to celebrate their students and their school.

By Mark Valdes, Staff Writer

The Poly PRIDE carnival is a celebration for all students to remind them the five qualities of a Poly student, which are not only important in school, but in the real world. The acronym PRIDE stands for: passion, respect, integrity, determination, and extraordinary. The carnival was filled with fun games, prizes, and new opportunities to build connections with new people.

The carnival contained activities such as mini golf, bowling, arcade machines, and more. These activities brought students together, show casing the importance of uniting us as a school and community. The overall experience was joyous, and laughter could be heard from just about anywhere.

The idea of a “PRIDE carnival” arose from Poly’s former principal Dr. Michael Roe, whose idea was to close the wide gap between students at Poly. The associate student body (ASB) is in charge of directing the carnival and devising with ideas to increase enjoyment. The senior ASB president, Grace Shelby Roemer (12), expressed that the carnival is “free to involve everyone”.

This spirited tradition has the power to bring the Poly community together. Students who may feel alone are able to easily connect with others and make friendships that last for a life time. The carnival prioritized the students and made all commodities affordable, including the tasty snacks which were free. This allowed students to enjoy the experience without worrying about costs.

The PRIDE carnival was an overall success, and many students cannot wait until next year. This is a big tradition for Poly and a huge part of the identity of a Poly student. Seeing this tradition being respected gives us an extraordinary presence. Be sure to stay determined with school work, because it will strengthen the passion and integrity of a Poly student!
