Poly granted rewards to students on Wednesday and Thursday, April 17-18, for excellence and score improvements on California Standardized Testing (CST).

The prizes can be earned in a multitude of ways. Students can either team up with their peers and be judged based on their cumulative score, or students can work alone and improve their independent scores. The group winners were congratulated during a short assembly on Wednesday. They all received a custom Poly T-shirt and had the choice of either a free yearbook or free prom tickets.

The individual winners were awarded with “golden tickets” to attend a small school-orchestrated celebration on Thursday. The event took place from fourth period all the way through fifth period.

Students who received soaring test scores or made improvements were released from class early so that they may participate in the assortment of activities. The event was held in front of the gym, where students exchanged their tickets for wristbands and passes that would provide them with unlimited access to the events and a free lunch.

Students could choose between outdoor and indoor activities. The outdoor activities included an inflatable bungee run, a strongman competition and an inflatable waterslide.

The indoor activities had many more options for students to participate in. They included giant inflatable balls for a game of basketball as well as an inflatable obstacle course. Students could also play videogames or just lounge around with friends.

CST rewards is a Poly tradition that many hope to see return. “With all the AP preparation, extra SAT classes and normal stress that comes along with high school, these little rewards are very welcome,” Wyatt Wiggins (12 ) said.
