There have been many changes this year to the Poly High administration. One of those changes is the addition of Poly’s new assistant principal, Rachel Bramlett.

Bramlett comes to Poly fresh out of her experience as Dean of Students at Ramona High School. Prior to that, she worked outside of RUSD as a counselor, where she acquired the necessary skills for her new position at Poly.

Although she has only been at Poly for two weeks, Bramlett is already eager to interact with the students. “Seeing kids and getting to know them is what I liked the most about discipline. I love guidance and I loved being a counselor. This is all second nature to me,” Bramlett said.

However, adjusting from her position in discipline to her position as assistant principal has not been easy for her. “It’s been painful, because I’m used to being with kids all day long,” Bramlett stated.

Although she does find that not working directly with students will be the most challenging aspect of her new job, she is confident that attending school activities will give her the connection she strives to have with the student body. “It’s one of my top priorities to engage with the students,” Bramlett said. Bramlett’s passion for the students is not only refreshing for the students themselves, but brings her happiness as well. “They’re hilarious. My friends who don’t work in schools wonder how I put up with it, but the students are what keep me young.”

Along with student interaction, the new assistant principal has another plan for her stay at Poly. She hopes to make processes in the office more “streamlined.” It’s her goal to build an office setting where it’s easier for the students to be able to talk to their counselors without waiting in long lines. “One thing that I saw at my old school was administration bringing a calm and order so that everybody could get taken care of,” Bramlett said.
