ELECTRIFYING: Poly Music Tech Club’s battle of the bands is a roaring success, and performing group ‘TBD’ walks away with $100 cash prize.

As students left campus on the afternoon of April 28th, the Littleworth Theater remained a buzzing hive of activity. The technicians and musicians inside had just an hour and a half before audience members would begin arriving. At 5 PM, the doors opened, and out flowed a torrential flood of music.

Poly’s music tech club assembled a lineup of five student bands, in alphabetical order named Dissonance, Lay About, Los del R, Room Service, and TBD. The participants performed live in front of a panel of special guest judges, composed of Mr. Markermores, Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Habereder, for a $100 prize. The host for the event was none other than Mr. Robinson. All five bands performed prior to a brief intermission, during which the judges decided who would move on to the final round of competition.

The excitement was palpable as crowds speculated as to who would move on to the final round. Mrs. Wilson was particularly enthusiastic. “When I was a kid, there were so many people playing in bands! There were concerts and high school bands you could go to all the time, and there’s not that much of that [anymore]. It’s really beautiful to see so many kids playing together!” The other judges shared this sentiment. “There’s nothing like live music,” Mrs. Harbereder asserted. “I loved it, it brought me back to my teenage years when I would go to shows all the time.” “Each band had a really unique sound, which is what I loved about it],” Mr. Markermorse added. “They were each able to stake out a sonic palette that really worked for them, and you don’t find that a lot in high school.” The decision could not have been more difficult, but in the end, it was announced that the bands Room Service and TBD would be competing head to head in the final round, whose victor would be decided by an audience vote.

Room Service performed first, and as the final notes were played, the crowd erupted in jubilant cheers. TBD took to the stage last, and the reaction was equally explosive. It all came down to one final vote, where the audience would cheer for their favorite band, and the louder cheer would win. The atmosphere was tense, and everyone in the theater was on the edge of their seats. After a literal drum roll, the winner was announced. TBD walked away with $100, and the ultimate bragging rights!

TBD was extremely proud, particularly because they had only formed two months prior. They wanted to thank Mrs. Harbereder for the hard work she has put into the music tech program, and commended student leaders for their help organizing the event. The band had not joined the competition for the money, but rather out of love for live performance and the sheer fun of being onstage. Congratulations to both TBD for winning the competition, and the music tech program for the massive success of the battle of the bands. Look out next year for a new round of Poly bands!
