As current staff members are leaving and this year, new members will be joining Poly High School.

Principal Dr. Michael Roe will be leaving Poly since he was offered a position to work as the Executive Director of Leadership Innovations and Outreach for the Riverside County of Education. Poly’s new principal will be Darel Hansen. Hansen attended the University of California San Bernardino where he majored in English. Before starting his career in public education, Hansen played professional baseball as a pitcher for the Oakland A’s for five years. After his baseball career, he continued school at National University where he earned his teaching credential. Hansen has plenty of experience working in education. From 2004-2007, he worked as Poly’s assistant principal. He started his career teaching English, as well as physical education at La Sierra High School and moved his way up to becoming an athletic director. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources in the Hemet Unified School District.

There will also be a new addition to Poly’s football team. John Rice will be joining the sports staff as head coach. Coach Rice has worked as a high school teacher for various subjects including English, AVID, and Spanish for 27 years, in addition to coaching football for the past 34 years. He previously worked as assistant coach for the St. John Bosco High School football team where they were the 2016 California Interscholastic Federation Open Division champions. Coach Rice is the Executive Vice President of the National Football Foundation in Riverside. This program awards scholarships to the top high school football players. He was also involved with Poly this year when he served as an assistant coach for Poly’s varsity football team during the 2018 season.

Poly is excited to welcome well-qualified staff members and wishes them the very best as they prepare to join the Poly community.
