Poly students now have the opportunity to join the National Honor Society (N.H.S.), a prestigious organization that recognizes students who have good leadership, service, scholarship and character qualities. N.H.S. is a well-known and well-respected scholarship program that has awarded more than 10 million dollars worth of scholarship money since 1946. Students who are members of the National Honor Society will have an N.H.S. seal on their diplomas and receive special graduation regalia. In addition, N.H.S. students are often sought out by employers and universities.
To be admitted into this esteemed program, all students (except freshmen) must have a cumulative, weighted GPA of at least 3.0, 35 hours of documented community service and a clean disciplinary record. Student entrance into this program will depend on whether students meet these criteria and if students demonstrate good leadership and character qualities.
If you wish to apply to join the National Honor Society—which includes members such as Cindy Crawford, Mr. Rogers and many senators and congressmen—you can pick up a form in room 212, or from the guidance office. Please completely fill out the form, and return it to Mr. Anthony Zlaket in room 212 by November 21. A five-person Poly Faculty Council will review these forms, and nominees will be notified of their membership status by December 19.
If an admitted student falls below the standards that his or her selection was based on, he or she will receive a warning and will be given time to correct the deficiency, unless that student blatantly violates school rules or the law. The Faculty Council will determine when an individual has exceeded a practical amount of warnings.
Students who are inducted into this program will have the ability to participate in N.H.S. events and will receive plenty of scholarship opportunities.
