EMOTIONAL: This Is Us tugs at Americans’ heartstrings.

NBC’s hit show This Is Us is currently in the middle of its second season. The show was created by Dan Fogelman, who is no stranger to Hollywood. He is a famous screenwriter who has written Crazy, Stupid, Love and the classic animated films Cars and Tangled. This Is Us follows the children of the Pearson family through their childhood, teenage years, and current adult life. The kids are triplets, Kate (Chrissy Metz), Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown). Encouraged by her husband Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), Rebecca (Mandy Moore) adopted Randall after she lost her third child due to a miscarriage. This plot allows the show to tell stories of overcoming racism because people criticize the mixed family for having all white children plus one African American child.
The program is home to some of the best actors on television. One of the prominent actors on the show is Milo Ventimiglia, whose character Jack allows the audience to see the actor’s comedic and emotional side. His performance makes Jack the heart of the show. Another great actor in the series is Sterling K. Brown, who gives a heart wrenching performance as Randall; the character’s past greatly affecting the man he is today. As an adult, Randall is a very caring man to his family and a shows bravery because he isn’t afraid to have difficult conversations with his mother, such as why she kept his real father away from him. These two actors have helped the show win multiple awards; Sterling K. Brown won the Screen Actors Guild award for Best Actor in a drama series and Milo Ventimiglia assisted in winning the show the SAG award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. With the way this latest season is progressing, the show is expected to win more awards in the future.
This Is Us is adored by many because the show houses characters that all families can relate to. The storylines of the show allow the audience to feel an emotional connection to every episode.
