KINDNESS: Giving around campus

The Christmas season is the time for giving, and Poly clubs and teachers are doing so by giving back to our community in Riverside. Puente is doing their annual toy drive, the Fashion Club is donating used clothing to the homeless, and the National Honor Society is donating supplies to families of Afghan refugees in Riverside County. The National Honor Society who are giving donations to Refugees in Afghanistan just had their donations drive. The National Honor Society collected wipes, diapers, sanitary products, hygiene products, school supplies, and winter clothes for these refugee families. Member of National Honor Society, Kate Sullivan (11), explained that they decided to choose Afghan refugees for their donations this year because  “this project was an opportunity to provide more direct assistance to local families.” National Honor Society partnered with the organization Globally Connected to do these donations for these families in Riverside County. When member Annabelle Lindwall (11) was asked about what the National Honor Society hoped to accomplish through these donations they explained, “we hope to spread these resources to these families… and make it a smooth transition from their home country”. These donations will greatly benefit the 21 families of Afghan refugees in our community including 6 families in Riverside, 2 in Corona, and 13 in Moreno Valley. The National Honor Society members are currently still voting on their next donation efforts, and they want it to be more hands-on next time and bring in even more donations. Overall, the donation drive went very well, and they are extremely pleased with the outcome. The National Honor Society hopes that their efforts in this drive will inspire people to donate more, and potentially join the club next year.
