FASHIONABLE: This year, students’ formal attire at the recent dance was perfectly of the moment.

Midwinter is one of the most anticipated and exciting Poly High School events. Our adult selves will someday reminisce upon high school experiences, one of the most memorable being the winter formal. What we use to commemorate these significant events are the suits, the dresses, and the formal attire. At this year’s 2022 Midwinter, the outfits flaunted on the dance floor were nothing short of unforgettable.

The theme of the dance was “A Night of Mystery”, corresponding with the James Bond film series. In most scenes, Agent 007 is seen in a classic black suit, white shirt, and bow tie. Senior, Griffin Hord bore resemblance to Mr. Bond at Midwinter, as he was “heavily influenced by the theme”. Most school dances, students pay little mind to the theme when choosing an outfit, but because of Griffin’s affection for the Bond series, he thought it a perfect opportunity to dress up like one of his favorite characters, and some might agree that he was the best-dressed to the theme.

A noticeable amount of students this year were inspired by recent “Euphoria” trends, a hugely popular HBO series with high-school characters always in funky wardrobes. Ophelia Kimber (12) wore a black one-shoulder dress with mesh detailing and gold heels. What finished off the “Euphoria” look were the rhinestoned eyelids and hairline which encompassed one of the show’s main characters, Maddy Perez. Ophelia was definitely one of the trendiest on the floor.

Kali Karmann’s (12) Midwinter outfit was one you couldn’t miss. In a bright red faux fur coat, open just enough to see the intricate neckline of her black latex dress, and red one-strap heels to tie it all together, her outfit was beautifully bold. Kali gave us the inside scoop – her dress is from Fashion Nova, and she found the heels and coat at Shein. With an outfit that I’m sure caught the eye of the crowd, Kali’s outfit was the boldest choice.

Last but most definitely not least, Victoria Salcedo (11) wore a corset black gown that sparkled under the flashing lights of the dance floor. Over top was a black faux fur coat, and strappy black heels to finish off the look. Inspired by her best friend, Victoria’s dress was one of the most memorable.

These four students embrace and represent the fashion of a voguish generation through their attention to the theme, trendy ensembles, boldly executed dresses, and unforgettable gowns.
