Mercadel was a three-year varsity player at Patriot High School before transferring to Poly this year. He will be playing baseball at California State University, Long Beach in Long Beach, CA. His coach at Patriot High School, Brian Kennedy, called the center fielder a “coach’s dream,” while Poly head coach Gary Voelker said that Mercadel has “brought a glow to the baseball field.”
