IMPACTFUL: Poly’s Key Club opens imaginative gateways for setting up students towards success.

Considering that adulthood is right around the corner, many students have realized that high school is an especially critical time to serve one’s community. Although this task may seem intimidating at first glance, Poly’s Key Club has greatly emphasized the different and creative ways in which community service can be provided to others. With its diverse board of members and an impressive array of events, Key Club is a great place to obtain leadership skills while also helping out the community.

Members stop to smile in the midst of a busy clothing drive.

Rocky Bader (12), president of Key Club, initially brought this organization to Poly in his sophomore year. “I established the club [on campus] and automatically became president,” he explains. Since then, the club has only gained popularity and success. By being the head of his team management, he has guided his members through the tedious process of organizing different events, such as “a movie night, clothing drive, and bake sale. We are [also] going to do a beach cleanup this year,” he adds on. Bader seems to greatly prioritize the pillars between fun and foundation. While teaching others about these core club values, Bader has also learned some important things along the way. “It’s been cool to teach students at Poly about what it means to be dedicated to community service, [but most of all, I have enjoyed] watching everyone and myself grow,” he states. As a longtime head of the board, Bader continues to pave the way for a promising future.

Other club members have also greatly contributed to the club’s flourishing environment. Brooke Decker (12), secretary of Key Club, originally came into the experience seeking “a good opportunity for college applications.” Since then, she has grown fond of the club’s atmosphere and environment, as well as its people. “I love how people appreciate what the club is for,” she asserts. Being goal-oriented as a community can help to carry out a greater impact, as illustrated by Decker’s ambition. Alyssa Vega (12), treasurer of Key Club, also speaks highly of the club’s reputation. As someone who “keeps track of the money,” Vega holds responsibilities in her position. During her time as a treasurer, however, she has greatly enjoyed it. “We’re expanding and doing great,” she excitedly says.

The Key Club proves to be a great opportunity for diving into leadership and community service. As Bader puts it himself: “If you want to help contribute your time to the community, then join Key Club!”
