HAUNTED HOUSE: Human Roast House is a ghostly good time right in downtown Riverside.

By Shelby Clemons, Staff Writer

It’s that time of year again–candy, Halloween and getting the living daylight scared out of you. For those horror fans, Human Roast House is the perfect retreat for the daring adventurer, but not for the faint of heart.

While the haunted house has been going on for five years, this year only marks its second professional year. Josh Roa St. Pierre, a recent graduate of North High School, began the project in his own house three years ago until the Riverside Arts Council approached St. Pierre and made it into a fundraiser hosted downtown on the corner of University Avenue and Main Street the past two years.

Human Roast House, or HRH, follows the story of fictitious local serial killer Austin Reed Trebbe. Volunteer staff and actors assist in putting the chilling experience together.

The attendee is “immersed into an entirely different world. They meet [Trebbe’s] victims, soon-to-be-victims, and, this year, his family. At one point, you venture into the mind of Trebbe, meeting the evil beings that force Trebbe to do the things that he does. Upon returning to reality, you realize that you’re not only a witness to the horror, but Trebbe’s next victim” St. Pierre said of the experience.

This unique haunted house begins on October 5and runs every Thursday through Sunday until the end of October, including the night of Halloween. Attendees can choose from a few different pricing options: general admission for $10, a VIP ticket that includes a front-of-the-line pass for $15 and, lastly, an Ultimate Fan Package for $25 that includes admission, a front-of-the-line pass and a HRH t-shirt.
