Whether you prefer horror films, romantic movies, comedies or dramas, when it comes to the wintertime, there’s nothing that can get you in the spirit of festivity quite like holiday films. What could be more delightful than watching, or even rewatching, heartwarming movies in honor of the holiday season? Watching holiday movies is a must—-it’s like drinking hot chocolate. Without further delay, here are some extraordinary movies that will definitely bring out the holiday spirit.
· Home Alone (1990): This hilarious classic is a movie that’s perfect for anyone. The plot revolves around an eight-year-old boy forgotten at home by his family as they leave for a Christmas abroad and is left to defend his house from two robbers, all by himself. To top it off, Home Alone “landed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the ‘Highest Box Office Gross – Comedy,’ pulling in $533,000,000 internationally,” Web Culture revealed.
· Elf (2003): Played by Will Ferrell, the main character in this film is a human raised among elves. This becomes a difficulty when he returns to his father in New York City, making an effort to reconnect with him. Elf is witty and warm, making it the perfect holiday comedy.
· The Santa Clause (1994): This entertaining film tells the story of a man who unintentionally kills Santa Claus and is required to assume Santa’s place at the North Pole, finding that it is a much more difficult task than he would have expected. This portrayal of the adventure as Santa Claus is absolutely fascinating.
· Christmas Vacation (1989): This movie perfectly demonstrates the spirit of the holidays. During the holiday season, Clark receives an unexpected visit from his family, causing things to go much differently than he had planned. This film captures the loving attitude of this wonderful time of year.
· The Holiday (2006): This romantic comedy follows the course of events following two women’s decisions to swap homes for the holidays. Their eventual return to their original homes becomes harder than they imagined it would be. The Holiday is an adorable and pleasing wintertime movie.
· How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000): If you’re looking for an opportunity to revisit a childhood favorite, this movie is perfect. Dr. Seuss’s well-known story of the Grinch’s attempts to destroy Christmas is portrayed in live-action with star Jim Carrey.
· Scrooged (1988): This variation of A Christmas Carol is comical and captivating. The main character is an unsympathetic man who learns a great deal about compassion. This interpretation of the classic is priceless.
· The Polar Express (2004): This charming tale depicts a young boy’s adventure to the North Pole and his realization about the need for acceptance of certain phenomena. It’s hard not to love such a heart-warming and grounding story.
If you think you could use something to bring out the joy of winter, watching or rewatching these movies can invoke the spirit of the holiday season.
