GOALS: Poly’s varsity girls’ volleyball hopes to make it to CIF this year despite the loss of valuable players.

This year, Poly girls’ volleyball strives to reach CIF Finals and take the “League Champion” title. However, that goal may be difficult to achieve since the team has lost six seniors from last season, four of which were starting players. Last year, the girls made it to the second round of CIF before they were knocked out. With high hopes of going further this year, the team is practicing harder than ever. Their loss at CIF last year “influenced [them] in a way that [they] push each other harder to be better,” Co-Captain Rowan Jack (11) expressed.
So far this season, the team has only lost one game to Valley View High School. The Lady Bears didn’t let up easily, but they “came up a bit short,” according to Jack. This season is predicted to be a building year for girls’ volleyball; it will be about developing talent and creating a strong team for the future. Jack stated, “We are the underdogs this year. Nobody thinks we can win league again, except us. We have faith in our abilities and I know we’ll go far.”
Fortunately, the girls have had the same coaching staff for four years. In this time, Jack expressed that the team has gotten the chance to grow as players and come together as a team. “We are going to have to prove to ourselves that if we continue to work hard and never settle, we can carry on the legacy of Poly girls’ volleyball,” Jack stated.
