COMPETITIVE: Poly Girls Soccer, one step closer to taking the league title home once again?
The Poly Girls Soccer team is very successful, having been undefeated league champions for five years in a row. These ladies are working hard during practice to win their league for a sixth time. With a current record of 7 wins, 6 losses, and 5 ties, will these determined players have what it takes to win the championship?
Good teams always look for ways to improve, and the Poly Girls Soccer team is no exception. According to freshman Charlotte Zunigha, the players are working on “passing together and working together better because they don’t have the coordination they need.” While the team has a collective goal, each player has their own goals. Senior Aryana Gamboa said her “goal for this season is to make it beyond the 2nd round of CIF.” As for challenges, players such as sophomore Sofia Yellam have found that “the mental aspect, like trusting yourself [with] the ball” is the hardest part of soccer.
These athletes balance school and soccer by “always letting their coaches know if they can’t do something,” Sofia Yellam explains. They also find time to do homework by “taking advantage of the long bus rides home” and “working during office hours,” add Aryanna Gamboa and Charlotte Zunigha.
Our Poly Girls are currently ranked 5th in the league, but we know they have what it takes to win! Come cheer them on at their upcoming home matches! The Poly girls have their next few home matches on January 21 and January 23. Junior Varsity girls play at 3:15, and Varsity plays at 5:00. Go Bears!
