The Poly girls’ basketball team had a good season, especially considering it had to adjust to a new league. The girls’ biggest competition during league play was Rancho Verde High School, which ended up taking first place and going 12-0 in league. The team finished in the middle of the pack in league with a 4-8 record and an overall record of 15-12.
With eight seniors leaving this year, including offensive threat Felisha Carrasco (12) and defensive powerhouse Tyease Bryson (12), the team will look to its newer talent such Delacy Brown (9), who led the team in scoring with 14.5 points per game.
Coach Scott Clark strategized a more defensive approach for this year’s team and focused on a plethora of defensive tactics at practice. Although the team lost 12 games this season, most of those teams were held to small, marginal wins of only a few points.
The league play may have been frustrating for the team, but the Lady Bears owned the court at tournaments! The team came in second at the Big Daddy Tournament and was the champion of the West Valley Tournament in the early pre-season. Next year appears to be a rebuilding year for the Lady Bears because of all the leaving seniors, but Clark is optimistic about the talent remaining on his team.
