Freshman Float Building
NEWBIES: First-timer float builders do an exceptional job!
Homecoming is one of the most exciting events during the school year. It is a time for all Poly students to come together and celebrate life as a high schooler. The dance, float building, and football game create an atmosphere on Poly’s campus unlike any other. For the first time, the class of 2027 were able to engage in this incredible experience. The theme this year for Homecoming was Bears on Film, and each class was assigned a different movie genre. Freshman were given Sci-Fi and were ready to be a part of one of the most thrilling times for a Poly bear.

When it came time to float building week, the Freshman were full of enthusiasm, putting their all into the Sci-Fi themed float. For the entire week, the Freshman worked together to create a float that was absolutely brilliant. Anberlin Alferez (9), commented on this collaboration, mentioning that float building was “a great experience for us to work together more.” This joint effort allowed for a float that was out of this world. This masterpiece of a float depicts two alien bears, created from green and black tissue paper flowers. A few planets, made of pink, yellow, blue, and gray tissue paper flowers. As well as a large UFO, made of gray and green tissue paper flowers. The float’s magnificence was due to the participation of the Freshman class and the hard work they put into it. In order to encourage kids to participate in float building, delicious foods like Del Taco, pizza, and Wienerschnitzel were given to those who showed up to chip in. These scrumptious foods got many students to help out, which allowed for the Freshman float to be so spectacular.

Despite the gallant attempt, the Freshman class did not come out victorious. “Even if we didn’t win, we tried our best, and that is all that matters,” stated freshman class president, Aiden Hamzeninejad (9). Winning the float competition is not what makes float building so impactful on the lives of Poly students. It is the memories and experiences shared during Homecoming that make it worthwhile. Mckynzie Gates (9), commented on this, saying that “this was one of the best weeks of my life.”
The new kids on the block may not have won, but they had an incredible time participating in the one of a kind Poly event that is Homecoming. Congratulations class of 2027 for a job well done on your first float building experience.
