Having found his love for music at a young age, John David Romo (9) submitted an audition for the Western Regional American Choral Director Association High School Honor choir this October with hopes of being one of 80 high schoolers selected for such a prestigious achievement. Auditions were sent in by musicians from all over California, Nevada, Utah, Hawaii and Arizona. Here, the lucky participants work with renowned choral teachers and educators as well as a professional conductors.
In seventh and eighth grade, Romo tried out for the All-state Honor Choir. After being accepted, he had the opportunity to sing with other talented Californians in San Jose. “I was excited. I was nervous, but overall I was excited and pretty happy about it because it’s pretty big,” expresses Romo (9) following his acceptance into the ACDA Honor Choir. He hoped this new honor choir experience will allow him to grow as a singer.
Poly is proud to have such an extraordinary young man showcase his talent in March for the convention along side 79 other talented high schoolers. “Poly Choir is so excited to have JD in our program. He is a driven musician; we are very excited to have him represent Poly,” explains Poly’s Choir teacher, Kristen Walton. Being only a freshman, Romo has proven that his choral career is far from over.
