Fashion is an aspect of life that has enabled humans to express their inner selves to the outer world. In a practical sense, it serves to cover our nude bodies, but fashion goes beyond concealing nudity. Fashion is art.
Beginning in 1943 as a small occasion, the New York event called Fashion Week has evolved into the hottest fashion-fest of the year. Stars travel from all around the world to find the latest trends and hottest looks. Fashion Week is so popular, in fact, that recent estimates have placed total earnings to be north of 865 million dollars. This year’s Fashion Week took place from September 10–17 in the heart of fashion central, New York City.
Fashion Week serves as an art display for the biggest designers, and this year, the art display has turned into a monumental movement. The William Morris Endeavor Entertainment (WME) has come together to collaborate with the International Management Group (IMG). With the collaboration between the two industries, fashion’s publicity is took on an entirely new level. The WME is an American talent agency located in Beverly Hills that works with artists across all media platforms, such as Ben Affleck, Oprah Winfrey and James Franco. The IMG is a gigantic talent agency, including IMG Models, a model management firm whose headquarters are located in New York. The two companies integration increased publicity in two cities where fashion is practically fused into ones lifestyle: Los Angeles and New York City.
Every season brings about new trends. This fall season, trends exhibited a plethora of elegant furs. From long to short, fur coats were present all over. World renown designers such as Michael Kors and Bibhu Morhapatra displayed a great amount of fur accessories and clothing items in their newest fall collections.
Every season has its designated color, and this fall, orange and pink colors were vividly pronounced throughout many exhibitions. Every year often features a different color with a different purpose, and this year’s was to “liven up a pretty dark season.”
One of this year’s latest adaptations in technology is the NYFW: The Shows app. The app can be purchased in the App Store or Google Play and allows for the general public to keep up to date on the latest trends. The App comes with live videos, schedules, grants the ability to save shows, maps and so much more. It is available in a variety of languages so that all cultures can enjoy something we all have in common, fashion.
Within the many trends and revenues, fashion week contributes way more than what meets the eye. It allows for a chance of all cultures to join together and display to the world their views of fashion through their creative visual and physical aides. Different shows occur in different locations and scenarios and provide different genres of music to portray a specific effect. Fashion does not only tell a story but lives it. Fashion gives consumers the opportunity to relive the past and engage the present. Fashion is the essence of love, creativity and the portrayal of modern-day life.
