Many students spend most of their senior year in anticipation of where they’ll get accepted and where they’ll go. Luckily for some, they’ve fully committed before the year came to an end. Once the Fall season came to an end, ten lucky seniors, Steven Anderson, Malia Benson, Lyndsey Brueckner, Lamont Butler, Evan Cain, Mya Daily, DJ Davis, Abbey Hoesman, Kelli Miechowicz, and Adam Serrano, were put into the spotlight to proudly announce where they’ll be attending in the next school year.
Steven Anderson has signed to Loyola Marymount University (LMU), continuing to play soccer on their team. He’s been playing since the age of four among many teams in club soccer and even played for Poly High School’s team. Steven made varsity soccer his freshman year of high school and has continued to improve throughout the years. He hopes to continue improving as an athlete and furthering his education at LMU.
Malia Benson has signed to West Point to continue on in her journey of softball and follow her passion of becoming an officer in the military. She has been playing softball for approximately eight years after previously falling in love with the game of baseball that pushed her to transition to softball. Malia has played for her high school team for four years, which increased her love for the game. Malia has had the continuous support of her friends, family, and her coaches, making her decision of where she wants to attend for the next four years easy.
Lyndsey Brueckner has committed to Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU), a private Christian college, where Lyndsey will continue her athletic career in swimming. Lyndsey has been a part of the sport for ten years now and has grown a connection to the sport. She is looking forward to building on her relationship with the sport as well as her relationship with God.
Lamont Butler has signed to San Diego State University (SDSU), where he will continue playing basketball on their team. Lamont has played basketball for as long as he can remember after being inspired by his three sisters. He’s played for many teams and has gone through many coaches and different experiences. Lamont has never let his love for the sport get in the way of his education as he’s carried a steady 4.5 grade-point average all through high school. He will continue to advance his education and skill in the game of basketball at SDSU.
Evan Cain has signed to California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), where he will continue playing water polo. Evan has played water polo for about 10 years and has never stopped loving the game. At the age of 16, Evan joined the SoCal Water Polo Club and helped his team win the 2018 National Junior Olympics. Evan is excited to be a part of the team at CSULB, where he will continue to grow his love for the game of water polo.
Mya Daily has signed to California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), where she will continue playing soccer and create new memories in a new environment. Mya has encountered many obstacles in her days of playing soccer whether it’s falling out of friendships or the lack of support from her coaches, but that hasn’t stopped her passion for the game and the hope for improvement. She has played soccer for as long as she can remember and has had an endless amount of support from her family and has created friendships that could last a lifetime. Mya is excited to create more memories at CSULB on their team and academically.
DJ Davis has signed to the University of California Irvine (UCI), where he will continue playing basketball on their team. Davis has been playing basketball for nine years and has served him as an escape from reality. He has played for his high school team and is looking forward to advancing his skills at UCI.
Abbey Hoesman has signed to Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU), where she will build on her love for softball. Abbey has played softball since the age of five and has been a loyal player since then. Abbey has played softball for her high school team as well as volleyball but has never strayed from her love of softball. Based on her past experience in softball, she’s gained some of her lifelong friends and is excited to see what FDU will bring.
Kelli Miechowicz has signed to California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM), where she will be a part of their volleyball team. Kelli has been playing volleyball since her eighth-grade year and has had nothing but love for the game. She’s played for many teams and has loved every bit of it from club sports to school sports her passion has always grown for the game. She’s excited to play for CSUSM and further her skills in the sport and academically.
Adam Serrano has signed to McKendree University, where he will be joining their water polo team. Adam has always been involved in sports but it wasn’t until the age of nine when he truly fell in love with one sport: water polo. He joined with his older brother and hasn’t stopped playing since, and will even be joining his brother at McKendree University. Adam has played water polo for his high school team and has paved his own path to the future he wants.
These ten students have guided themselves to the people they are today and the future they want. Their friends, family, and even coaches have nothing but high hopes for these ten students and with their hard work and determination, they will continue to improve.
