After a long season full of wins and losses, the time came for the Poly sports teams to meet their ultimate test this year in CIF. The boy’s water polo, football and cross country team all made it to CIF as well as the girls tennis, golf, and volleyball team. Each team fought their battles to their maximum ability, resulting in a great 2019 fall season.

Poly’s football team made CIF for the first time since 2015, making history for the high school’s team. After earning a spot in CIF, the players were tasked with playing Ontario Christian High School. Unfortunately, the team fell short of a win and their season came to an end. The football team lost in the first round of CIF, but not without a good fight. The loss did not define the team, but only inspired them for seasons to come.

The football team was not the only sports team to tackle CIF this season. The girls tennis team made it all the way to the quarter finals before their journey ended. The Poly tennis team had a great season full of multiple wins. After being undefeated in league, they started their CIF journey by playing El Toro High school, where they dominated, resulting in a 13-5 win. With their confidence through the roof, they moved on to round two against Malibu High School where they once again proved their rightful place in CIF with a 14-4 win. Their journey continued when they hit CIF quarterfinals. The Poly bear’s tennis team played Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks High School. They played a strong match but lost in games in a 9-9 match. Although this loss was unfortunate, the Poly girl’s tennis team played an overall great season.

Alongside with the tennis team and football team, the Riverside Poly Boys Water Polo team moved on to CIF. The boy’s water polo team started their CIF journey off with a splash. They began by playing Laguna Beach which led to their first win as a CIF team. The Poly Bears were on a CIF winning streak until, like the tennis team, they lost in the quarter finals. The team was defeated by San Clemente with a 15-9 loss. Despite the score of their last game, the Poly Boys Water Polo team did not go down without a fight. They had a great season and made the school proud.

The Riverside Poly volleyball team made CIF playoffs. The team played Palm Desert High School where they unfortunately lost in the first round. They, like other sports, played an amazing season, proving themselves to our school. The Cross Country team also went to the CIF playoffs, working hard and making a difference.

All the Riverside Poly Fall Sports teams did a great job when it came down to battling in CIF. No one went down without a fight. All the teams left a message for all the other schools out there, and the bears will be back next year better than ever. Each team brought a different component to the table leaving Poly high with amazing fall season results.
