FANTASTIC: Homecoming activities were proven to be a success.

As everyone is getting settled this new school year, many new and exciting things are happening; one of them being Homecoming.  The Homecoming dance was on October 2nd.  The parade and football game were on October 9th.  The theme of the dance was music festivals.  Students brought out their cowboy hats for Stagecoach, flower crowns for Coachella and fishnets for Rolling Loud.  Each class dressed as if they attended a different music festival.  The freshmen dressed for Lollapalooza, the sophomores for Stagecoach, the juniors for Rolling Loud and the seniors for Coachella.  The dance was from 7 pm to 10 pm in the 600’s quad.  Students played air hockey, Galactica and Pacman on retro machines, as well as danced, laughed and had lots of fun.

There was a Homecoming Assembly to announce everything for Homecoming on Friday, September 17th. Theater and choir performed, the Homecoming court nominees were read out and there were fun games that students participated in. The spirit days for the week before the Homecoming game were also announced.  The spirit days were from October 4th to October 8th to get everyone into the Homecoming spirit.  On Monday of that week, students showed off their music festival spirit by wearing their favorite band tee. Let their inner hippie out for tie-dye day on Tuesday. On Wednesday, students got ready to roar for animal print day with their most dashing zebra or cheetah print clothing. Thursday was pop star versus country singers.  Students flaunted their cowboy boots or extravagant stage outfits.  And to finish off the week, all the students sported their best green and orange poly gear to show off their school spirit.

Each club nominated two people for Homecoming court.  Voting took place during the student’s English period.  Voting for the top 5 nominees was on October 1st and final voting was on October 8th.  The winners were announced during the halftime of the Homecoming football game.  The winners were Adam Figuroa (12) and Maribel Gutierrez (12) from Poly’s Principle-Centered Leadership Club.  The Homecoming football game was at 7 pm on October 9th and we played Canyon Springs High School.  We had an amazing win with the final score being 42-7.

There was a parade showcasing all of our nominees for the Homecoming court. The Homecoming parade was from 9 am to 11 am.  The floats started at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Parking Lot and drove down Central Avenue.  Each class built a float for the parade based on the music festival they dressed as for Homecoming. Floats were assembled every day from October 4th to October 8th from 4 pm to 9 pm.  Students got together and helped to assemble the float by folding paper flowers and building the float for the parade.

Homecoming was a great way to bring our school together as a community after last year’s hardships.  This was the second school dance since starting the 2021-2022 school year.  We are so happy that all students participated with lots of school spirit and had lots of fun!
