Doctor? Doctor Who? Doctor Who’s celebrating its 50th anniversary this November! One of the longest running sci-fi television shows in the world, Doctor Who decided to commemorate its 50th by releasing a movie, The Bells of St. John.
“It is being planned as a TV movie to mark 50 years of the show. It will be the highlight of the celebrations. The episode has been written but we don’t really know yet whether it will be an hour, 75 minutes or 90 minutes. Filming for the anniversary episode starts in two weeks and there is a real buzz about it, especially because it will be in 3D,” according to BBC, the company that produces Doctor Who. The script has been finalized and the company begins filming shortly, leaving all Whovians in an utter frenzy as they anticipate the upcoming film. However, not all Whovians will be able to experience the movie in 3D.
“The movie-length episode will be shown at cinemas in Britain and around the world at the same time as it is screened on BBC1 in November,” BBC said. In short, British fans will be graced with the illusion of being inside the Tardis, while the rest of the population will have to be content with approximately an hour of the Doctor on television. In addition to the movie, BBC plans to include a behind-the-scenes DVD (a 90-minute drama that explains the origins of the television show) and a fan event at the London Excel. Until then, Whovians have the preceding episodes to enjoy.
