DANCE: Natalie Apostol makes Varsity Song as a freshman.

By Andrea Alvarado, Staff Writer

Dance is a beautiful art with a deep expression of emotions. Aspiring artist  Natalie Apostol (9) began her dancing journey at the young age of five. During her first years in dance, she moved from one dance studio to another, ultimately ending up at Victoria’s Simply Dancing studio in Orange Crest. Once she felt comfortable enough to use her talent to compete for her studio, she began participating in local dance competitions. She placed in the top of virtually every competition she participated in.

Most recently, Apostol competed in the Move Regional Dance Competition in Escondido where she placed first in her age group. Later, she went on to compete in the Move National Dance Competition in Las Vegas where she placed in the top ten of her age group.

Before becoming a Poly Bear, Apostol attended Amelia Earhart Middle School where she took part in the dance/pom team. This enjoyable experience helped her decide to try out for the Poly Varsity Song team. “I wanted to be a part of something similar to what I did in middle school; it was a lot of fun,” Apostol explained.

Though she hoped she would make the cut, Apostol was still stunned when she saw that she made the team. “I was really excited and just shocked that I made it,” Apostol said. Not only is she the only freshman on the Varsity team, but she is also the only underclassman. Despite this age gap, she does not have a difficult time interacting with the upperclassmen. “We all have one thing in common: dance. So we just talk about dance,” Apostol said.

Apostol is currently looking for a new studio to dance for. Although she will take classes at her future studio, she does not believe that she will compete anytime soon. “I think I am just going to focus on Poly Song. I look forward to working with people my age and just having fun,” Apostol said.

Because of her love for dance, Apostol cannot think of a better way to spend her time at Poly High School than on the song team. “It’s a big part of my life and it’s just something I really enjoy doing,” Apostol said.
