The Poly boys’ basketball team had a difficult and frustrating season, but it trudged on nevertheless. The new league proved to be troublesome with powerhouse teams North High School and Rancho Verde, both contending for the league title with league records of 11-1.
Unfortunately, the Bears came in last place with a record of 2-10 in the Inland Valley League. However, this was a rebuilding year as many integral players from the previous season had left, leaving only three remaining seniors this year including Bailee Freidman (12), who led the team in assists. Hopefully, the team will grow even stronger in the coming years, as a majority of the team is comprised of freshmen and sophomores.
One of the team’s biggest wins this year was against Vista del Lago in league play, in which Poly only won by two points! It was an exciting game with a very tense form of play. Offensive assets for Poly included Matt Slater (11) and JD Builteman (10), who both scored 11 points. This is the type of energy that the Bears hope to carry into next season, creating more wins and a better overall record than this season’s 9-15 record.
