VSCO: Are the girls in the class of 2023 really VSCO girls?

What’s even is a VSCO girl? VSCO is a social media app filled with filters for photos and videos which one can save and share. This social media app creates aesthetically pleasing and “trendy” pictures. A “VSCO girl” is a term to describe girls who wear baggy t-shirts with athletic shorts, Birkenstocks or Crocs, shell necklaces, braided bracelets, accompanied with a messy bun. Most of the girls assigned to this title own a water bottle called a Hydro Flask. All the girls who conform to these trending styles have earned the title of a VSCO girl.
Many of the upperclassmen label the girls in the class of 2023 as “VSCO girls.” However, does wearing big t-shirts and athletic shorts with shell necklaces mean that they should be labeled as the newfound “VSCO” girl? Most girls like to dress comfortably and messy buns and Birkenstocks are the new look. So who are they to expect these girls to dress as if they were on the runway everyday. Choosing to dress comfortably and owning a Hydro flask are not factors that should determine someone’s character, but maybe the Class of 2023 will start the new runway of hydro flasks and oversized t-shirts.
Many people have developed funny videos of how VSCO girls act, dress, and what they might say through an app called Tik Tok. When interviewing a couple of students in the class of 2021, they acknowledged that most girls in the class of 2023 are “VSCO girls.” However, I believe that the class of 2020, 2021, and 2022 are equally as “trendy” and dress like “VSCO” girls, but it looks as if the Class of 2023 is setting the stage for new and improved trends.
