COMEBACK: First dance since returning from Covid.

Poly is no stranger to lively and interactive school dances, boasting success with each and every late night bash. However, after a year such as 2020, the question remained about the future of school dances. This lingering question was confronted during the first week of school with the announcement of the ‘Glow Back to School’ themed dance on Friday the 13th. The announcement was met with excitement and a tinge of hesitancy, “I’m excited but nervous to get back in the groove of things” said Grace Dallarda (12), ASB treasurer. There was a buzz of excitement in the air as over 700 students crowded into the 600s quad for the first truly large school gathering since the distance of Covid. As the dance progressed, the isolationary effects of the pandemic were unequivocally displayed, with many students sitting or standing off to the side clumped in small groups. Another sign of the times was the lack of a live DJ, with only a playlist to fill the absence. While it was clear there was a slight disconnect returning from Covid, many still considered the dance a great success. “I think that it is really nice to have an event where after Covid we can all come together as a group and just really unify as a school, ” explained Maggie Roemer (12), ASB president. Regardless of any hiccups in this first return, it is safe to say everyone is looking forward to the rest of the year and all of the promising activities it will hold.
