SENIOR SUNRISE: The class of 2022 gathers for the first time as newly crowned seniors.
The 2021-2022 school year began as the sun rose over Sycamore Canyon Park, which commenced a new reign of seniors over Poly High School. Waking up at the crack of dawn has never been so worth it – especially when it is to witness an unforgettable sunrise while reminiscing upon how fast high school flew by, followed by nostalgic anecdotes of teenage memories.
Senior sunrise has been a long-held tradition at Poly High School, and this year’s class did not disappoint. With a turnout that was nothing short of impressive and dozens of Yum Yum donuts, senior year could not be off to a better start. ASB senior class president, Anna Yrungray agrees, adding a symbolic perspective that it was the perfect way to “begin a new chapter in our lives”. By the time the sun had hit its peak, students were more than ready for a cup of coffee and a stack of pancakes. A swarm of dreary-eyed high-schoolers arrived at Denny’s to carry on conversations about upcoming senior events over breakfast. The energy was the highest you’d ever get from a group of teenagers, even that early in the morning, and the entire restaurant was loud with excitement for a hopeful new school year. Anna also mentioned the importance of not taking these special activities for granted after the uncertainty brought by COVID-19. Our bears finally arrived to their senior year after overcoming a shared adversity, making this sunrise an unequivocally valuable one. This marks the beginning of a beautiful finale.
