PROM: Poly’s Associated Student Body (ASB) gives recognition to those truly great “promposals.”

Asking a date out to prom can be a daunting task. There are worries about whether or not the recipient will say yes, and if he or she will be satisfied with the execution. However, this is not a difficult task for some students. In fact, some of them go leaps and bounds above expectations.
Poly’s ASB decided to recognize these students in a contest recently held on Instagram. The competition was announced on March 27 and concluded on April 12 at lunch. The prize of the contest was, fittingly enough, a discount on prom tickets. The finalists for this competition were Matt Slater (12), Matt Rusich (12) and Louie Leonardi (12), with Leonardi coming in as the victor.
Leonardi’s plan for success in asking out his girlfriend Savannah Garthwaite (11) was to first take her on Disneyland’s Splash Mountain, have her sit in the front of the ride and, at the time that the attraction takes a picture of the riders, hold up a sign asking her to prom. Luckily, despite nerves that almost compromised the operation, the plan was a success. While Garthwaite did indeed have her suspicions that Leonardi would ask her to prom, she certainly did not expect it to be on a Disneyland ride.
Naturally, the couple is excited for prom, especially after how successful Leonardi’s execution was. “Asking her to prom was definitely a highlight of my senior year — a highlight which will certainly be surpassed by prom itself,” Leonardi said.
This sentiment is no doubt echoed by the multitudes of students who have asked their respective dates to prom, whether it be in a traditional or extravagant way. Either way, the memories made during that night, and perhaps during the proposal itself, are a very nice reminder of an important high school date.
