The thing about your question that really catches my attention is that if you like this guy, you’ll “be like everyone else.” From your wording, I can imply two things. Either you want to be like everyone else, or you will be like everyone else, but regretfully so. If you truly like this guy, then one thing we know for sure is that you share this position with too many other girls. Win him over. You must make yourself shine in some way that makes the guy notice you, and more importantly, remember you more than any other girl.

So what gravitates you (and everyone else) towards him? If he is well-liked then I assume that he is usually busy talking to people. The question is: Are you one of those people? How often do you talk to him? Be frank with yourself. Either he is just that guy you stare at for 52 minutes across the room, or he is that guy whom the seating chart gods blessed you with and you love turning around in your desk just to talk to him.  I do not know your romantic history, but if you are questioning the decision to express your feelings for him, you might just be a little nervous or intimidated. I advise you to keep a close watch on how he interacts with you and to have good intuition about this. Is he (or would he) be physically attracted to you? Unless the guy does not already make it blatantly obvious that he is attracted to you, girls tend to have ways of finding out this information through means like spies. If there already is that spark, then it probably will be easier to express your feelings.  However, if you know he is not interested or still are not sure, then it is not worth it to try any time soon. To put it bluntly, high school romance is constructed on an unrealistic set of ideals that more often leave kids lonely and disappointed rather than happily matched with someone. However, I also believe in exceptions, which you could very well be.
