Poly students are recognized for their academic achievements. Advanced placement (AP) level students who have demonstrated their knowledge of multiple subjects on the college level are presented with awards.
“The AP Program offers several AP Scholar Awards to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams,” CollegeBoard, a website for students with college aspirations, said.
AP Scholar Awards are granted to students who receive an average score of a minimum 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Many Poly students have been awarded the AP Scholar Award. Recent Poly graduate and AP Scholar Taylor Cranor said, “I think it’s an excellent way to recognize achievement across disciplines and provides an extra incentive for people to do well on the exams.”
There are multiple award levels that one can earn. The levels include AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor, AP Scholar with Distinction, State AP Scholar and National AP Scholar. AP Scholar awards are granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. Scholars with Honor must receive average scores of 3.25 or higher on all AP Exams, while Scholars with Distinction must receive average scores of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams. State and National Scholars are granted to those with the highest average scores on AP Exams in each state and nationwide.
Poly had a total of 12 students receive National AP Scholar awards. 2012 Poly graduate and AP Scholar with Distinction Emily Espinoza, said, “The distinction makes me proud. It is very rewarding because I am recognized for all of the hard work and dedication I put into all of my AP classes throughout the years.”
