COMPETITIVE: The fall sports season is off to a great start, and Girls Golf is shining this year with a 4-0 winning streak. The team is determined to achieve their goals and face all challenges head-on.
Last year, the Poly Girls Golf team won the league championship with an undefeated season. To be just as successful this year, players are working extra hard. Captain Ariana Soto (12) shares that the team has high hopes “to win all of our league matches and hopefully win team CIF.” Coach Shulte shared that this team has traditionally “done extremely well in league. That’s a major goal of [theirs]: to try and remain undefeated as [they] have been for many, many years. It is a high expectation, but it is a reasonable expectation given the quality of play that [they] have shown.”
While players are stressing over whether or not they will “make it to CIF”, coaches and captains are there to make sure the team is as successful as possible. Player Allison Winters (9) shares that the captains and coaches are “really encouraging, really positive, they’re cool, and they encourage [her] to be better.”
This year’s team is composed of “5 experienced and 5 inexperienced golfers, but they’re all meshing very well.” Coach Chavez and Coach Schulte have been “working with these new players knowing that it is going to be a challenge to them as a part of the team. Their abilities and performance in a match will depend on every single player on our team, not those same five.” Despite this, these new players are excited to improve.
If you’re interested in playing a new sport, golf may be for you. Golf can put you “in a relaxing headspace” and “helps you relax after a long day.” When selecting the team, the coaches look for “coachability, positivity, and pace of play.” These hard-working players have a busy schedule, so be sure to cheer them on throughout their season!
