INTERACT: The club that makes an impact on our community.

The international organization Interact was created with the motive to spread awareness about community service while simultaneously exploring leadership opportunities. Here at Poly, if you were to walk into an Interact club meeting, you would see exactly that.

For some, joining Interact club was a relatively new experience. Anya Ivy (12) joined the club at the beginning of the school year because she wanted to “contribute to the community more.” She had previously struggled with volunteering because she was “scared to do it with no friends.” However, Interact club had given her the opportunity to make an impact with others at her side.

For others, Interact club is not a new concept at all. President Samantha Sierra (12) and vice president Thyda Hang (12) have both been in Interact for three years, embodying leadership in Interact. Through her role of being president, Sierra hopes to “make [the club] lively” and set up a base for the incoming members. She believes it is important to advertise the club, whether that be through social media or events such as club rush. Vice president Hang wants the members to “gain leadership experience and pursue opportunities.” She assesses these as core fundamentals of Interact, and has goals to explore different ways to do community service.

Athena Ghazarian (12), photographer of the club, joined Interact because of her love for the environment and community service. “As photographer, it’s so nice to capture the community events, and see the differences we make,” she states. So far, the moments that Ghazarian has captured were the first club rush and club meeting, as well as the carnival.

Although the year has barely started, the club has already sprung into action in making a change. According to Sierra, Interact has volunteered at the local Alcott elementary school. She also mentions plans of going to a beach cleanup in November as well. If you are interested in having fun, whilst also impacting the community in a positive way, Interact is the club for you! If you are interested in joining, contact Sam Sierra, Thyda Hang, or come to a meeting!
